Eligibility—North Carolina immigration naturalization service

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) provides a naturalization eligibility worksheet that asks questions for determining eligibility. One of our immigration lawyers can explain the questions and evaluate your answers to help you understand whether you are eligible for naturalization, and if not, how you may become eligible.

It is critically important when applying for citizenship that you correctly analyze your eligibility. Your eligibility includes your age, the number of years you have been a permanent resident (green card holder), length of U.S. residency, uninterrupted time in the United States without taking a trip abroad, total time out of the United States, previous immigration history and criminal circumstances.

Photos, fingerprints, documents, and fees

We inform you where to get photos taken and how many photos are needed. We have USCIS addresses where you can go for fingerprinting, and a complete list of documents you need to present. An attorney will also explain the fees you are required to pay.

Oath of Allegiance

When you pass the tests, you are given a date to attend the Oath of Allegiance ceremony. At this time, you check in at the USCIS field office, turn in your permanent residency card (green card), and answer questions about your activities since the previous interview and test. Once you take the Oath of Allegiance during the formal ceremony, you become a U.S. citizen.
